It's not about money with cartridges, although many DJs will tell you different. Here's one thing you can do... go to YouTube and type in DJ CRAZE - check out his videos. Check out which cartridges he uses... Stanton 500's - the least expensive cartridges on the market - about $30-40 at most retailers -vs- the industry standard: SHURE M44-7 @ $75-85 or the Ortofon Scratch models @ $95 a pop! DJ Craze won 3 DMC titles using his Stanton 500's - 3! That's the most anyone's ever won. He has been banned from competing, because he's just that good. So, what does that tell you... is it the skill or the hardware that make a good DJ? So, at the very least, get yourself some Stanton 500's to start off - you might like them, and they'll be easier on your wallet, then take it from there. Craze goes all across the board now with cartridges, and he's even had his own signature series released by Stanton - the Stanton 520s! Of course, everyone is different. I know DJs who will not use anything other than the Shure M44-7's, other's don't care. So, it's all a matter of preference. First, hone your skill... then perfect it by choosing the right cartridge to go with your routine / skill level...
